The most popular bloggers regularly write posts that are diverse, informative and vary in length and structure. So what happens when bloggers run out of ideas?
Attracting a large following on a blog takes time and a major commitment. A lack of inspiration or motivation can be a blogger’s worst enemy. Here are seven topics bloggers can use to overcome writer’s block. Opinion is Central to BloggingMany people start blogs because they feel strongly about a particular topic, yet opinion posts can go beyond the widely used rant or rave. Bloggers can review products and services or dissect contrasting viewpoints. When writing about an opinion, bloggers should tell readers why they feel a certain way and use supporting facts to back up their claims. This adds credibility and enhances persuasive power. Readers Love New StatisticsBlog readers and other news enthusiasts are drawn to new statistics that are quick and easy to read. Use charts or graphs if applicable and explain the context behind the statistics. Do the figures represent a change in behavior? Why are the figures evolving? Observe and Make Predictions about TrendsBloggers are avid purveyors of information, and the body of knowledge they acquire can be used to help others gain insight or stretch their realm of thinking. Additionally, accurate predictions and astute observations can help bloggers earn reputations as experts in their fields. What’s considered the “next best thing”? What products are doomed to fail or succeed? Where is the industry heading? Interview People who Interest the Blog’s AudienceEveryone has an interesting story to tell, so find the people who interest a specific audience and tell their story. The viewpoints of outside sources can offer depth and insight, spark ideas for future blog posts or inspire reader comments. A “Q&A” format is easy to read and write. Write Instructional PostsReaders want to learn something new. They seek it out. Instructional posts that offer tips, how-to steps or dos and don’ts are effective in increasing a blog following because of this inherient quest for knowledge. Bloggers can also demonstrate visual techniques by posting video clips. Make a ListLists covering the best of something are fairly common. Cover the opposite side too. What would be included on a worst, nastiest or least effective list? What other kinds of lists can be created? Pose Questions or Dilemmas to ReadersBloggers should consciously reach out to their readers. Pose questions and ask readers to chime into topics. Blog comments can generate as much interest as the posts themselves. Writer's block is frustrating and can strike the most prolific bloggers. After crafting dozens or even hundreds of posts, the creativity mill can stop short. Don't get discouraged. Bloggers often need to take a step back and simply observe current happenings in their industries. Their body of knowledge can be used to make predictions and teach their readers something new.
